Naloxone Administration for Potential Bystanders
Course Description:
Naloxone can be a lifesaving drug when administered in a timely manner to a person who is overdosing on opioids. Naloxone Administration for Potential Bystanders is a course designed to prepare any individual in the event they encounter an opioid overdose situation that requires immediate action. Students will be instructed on how to recognize an overdose, administering naloxone, performing rescue breathing, and what to do after the person has been revived.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
- Identify who is at risk of an opioid overdose and what factors put users at risk
- Describe how to recognize an opioid overdose
- Show the step by step process in responding to an overdose
- Perform the essential first aid responses and the administration of Naloxone on a training mannequin
- Identify why it is important to stay with the individual until EMS arrives

Course Length: 1 day / 1 hour
Who May Attend: Educators, Counselors, School Staff Members, Businesses, Community Based Organizations, Community Members
Certifications: Certificate of completion from the Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs and the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
