Naloxone Administration for First Responders

Course Description:

Naloxone can be a lifesaving drug when administered in a timely manner to a person who is overdosing on opioids. Naloxone Administration for First Responders is a course designed to provide the training any first responder carrying Naloxone is required to complete. Students will be instructed on how Pennsylvania is addressing the opioid epidemic, how to recognize an overdose, administering naloxone in three different forms, and compliance with PA Act 139.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

  1. Identify who is at risk of an opioid overdose and what factors put users at risk
  2. Describe how to recognize an opioid overdose
  3. Show the step by step process in responding to an overdose
  4. Identify three different types of Naloxone administration methods to include Narcan Nasal Spray, Naloxone Nasal Injector, and Evzio Auto-Injector
  5. Perform the essential first aid responses and the administration of Naloxone on a training mannequin using Narcan Nasal Spray, Naloxone Nasal Injector, and Evzio Auto-Injector
  6. Understand the requirements of first responders to ensure compliance with PA Act 139
  7. Understand how to complete and submit the Pennsylvania Naloxone Usage Reporting Form

Course Length: 1 day / 1 hour

Who May Attend: First Responders

Certifications: Certificate of completion from the Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs and the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
